Raised in poverty, Edith's magical voice and her passionate romances and friendships with the greatest names of the period - Yves Montand, Jean Cocteau, Charles Aznavour, Marlene Dietrich, Marcel Cerdan and others - made her a star all around the world. But in her audacious attempt to tame her tragic destiny, the Little Sparrow - her nickname - flew so high she could not fail to burn her wings.Starring: Marion Cotillard, Gérard Depardieu, Sylvie Testud, Pascal Greggory.

In 1997 he founded "The Silent Clowns Film Series" with film historian Bruce Lawton. The Riverdale Y Recycles!

Plastics, glass, paper or garbage?

This is the question our members will be asking themselves a lot these days as they dispose of items in the new bins throughout the facility. On October 31st with the help of John Johnson III and David Hurd of the Mayor's Office of Recycling Outreach and Education, we set up recycling stations throughout the Y. Mr. Johnson and Mr. Hurd also trained the Riverdale Y staff about why recycling is so important, stressing that this is one very effective concrete step that each of us can take in response to global warming. They also gave us an update on what can be recycled in New York City (for example, when it comes to plastics you can only recycle items with necks, like jugs and bottles). The recycling stations throughout the building are the first step towards our becoming a recycling resource center for Riverdale. We look forward to offering bins for harder to recycle items like rechargeable batteries and used clothing as well as informational programs about how, what and why to recycle. Watch future newsletters and check out our Greening Riverdale webpage or call Rachel Jacoby Rosenfield x237 for more information.

Artists’ Beit Midrash

Join other artists in a newly formed cooperative learning community where we will explore the theme of “Darkness and Light” in Jewish sources. As we look at the interface between aesthetics and Judaism you will create your own visual commentary on our sacred texts. Starting from the second session, share your work with other artists.

Co-facilitators are Rabbi Barry Dov Katz, CSAIR, and Harriet Balaran Finck, a noted painter/collagist and college instructor. Harriet’s work is a powerful example of how classic Jewish stories can inspire artists to create their own interpretations, mirroring the depth of our classical commentaries.

Classes will be held at CSAIR, 475 West 250th Street in Riverdale. At the end of the program, artists will exhibit their works in a group show at the Riverdale Y.
