Beaufort (nominated for Best Foreign Film)
Saturday, March 8, 8 pm
Come see this stirring Academy-Award-Nominated Israeli film.
"What intrigued me most in the story of BEAUFORT is that it deals with how wars end. There is an abrupt, definitive moment in every war when the mission, or purpose, for which soldiers gave their lives until that moment, ceases to exist. With BEAUFORT, this moment comes with a great horrific explosion, destroying one of the bloodiest mountains in the Middle East - an unforgettable, adrenaline-saturated moment, but also an image that crystallizes the inconceivable waste of human life. As a filmmaker, and
as a former infantry soldier, I feel extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to put this image on screen." - Joseph Cedar, Director

Zombie Prom is coming to the Y!
Get out your scariest costumes, grab the kids and come to see the Riverdale Rising Stars spring production of ZOMBIE PROM. This is a campy look at the 1950's which tells the story of teenage love gone wrong. The "good" girl, Toffee, is forbidden from seeing her true love, the "rebel", Jonny. In despair he throws himself into a nuclear wasteplant. True love prevails, though, and Jonny comes back from the dead as a Green Teenage Zombie! Zaniness ensues as we follow Jonny and the teens as they
fight to get Jonny back in high school, despite the loud protests of Principal Delilah Strict who has a big secret of her own. Ace reporter Eddie Flagrante is determined to make sure the public knows that Jonny should not be discriminated against just because he's a green zombie!

Early Childhood News
Our Inclusion Initiative Begins
In an effort to serve the entire community and the diverse population which makes up Riverdale, the Y has begun to create programming for individuals with special needs and their families. This initiative is happening in collaboration with the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services. We will provide these supports through several different venues, including staff training, resource sharing, and program adaptation. Furthermore, the Y will now provide social skills training groups for children and support
groups for their parents. These groups will begin at the end of February. In addition, the entire staff at the Y will attend a sensitivity training on March 19th conducted by Pat Grossman from the Westchester Jewish Community Services.
For more information about upcoming programming, contact Sandy Mislow at ext. 230 or email her at SMislow@RiverdaleY.org.
The Jimmies:
Sunday, March 30, 11:00 am

A family brunch will be available beginning, at 10:30 AM, followed by a fabulous, riotous fun event appropriate for children up to 8 years old and their families!
This concert is the annual fundraising event benefiting the Riverdale Y Nursery School music and movement enrichment programs. Tickets available online.
Social Skills Groups Forming
The Riverdale Y is starting social skills groups for children with special needs. The purpose of these groups is to provide an opportunity for children to interact and practice using their social skills.
Playmates will be for children age three to five and will take place Sundays from 9:30am to 11:00am.
Friends for Fun will serve kids age six to eight and will occur on Tuesdays from 4:00pm to 5:30pm.
Both groups may be comprised of children with variable levels of functioning. Intake interviews are now open to children with a wide range of developmental disabilities, including but not limited to autism, Down syndrome, mental retardation, ADD/ADHD, and speech and language delays. The final decision about group composition will come at the end of the intake process, to insure that a child is not placed in a group that would be a poor match for him or her.
For more information or to set up an intake interview, please call Sandy Mislow at 718-548-8200, ext. 230 or email her at smislow@riverdaley.org.

Dance
Department
Our Saturday night Ballroom Parties continue to grow in leaps and bounds. March 15 is the last party of the winter season. We hope to start Sunday afternoon Teadances in the coming months to keep all our ballroom dancers moving through the warmer months.
Our younger children's classes are thriving; our little dancers are having a wonderful time. We'd love to see more teenagers dancing up a storm within our studios. Remember we have ballet, jazz, tap, ballroom and theatre dance for that age group. Parents - it's so important to get those kids off the couch and away from the computer and TV into a physical activity like dance. To all our wonderful RRS Seniors and Juniors - remember how important it is to be able to move well on stage. Additionally, dance training
makes you a stronger singer and gives you the endurance you need to get through a long show with energy to burn. It's never too late to try one of our classes.
For more information and online registration visit the Riverdale Y Dance School web page at www.riverdaley.org/dance
