Tone your abs! This class consists of a variety of basic to advanced core exercises on the ball.
A Caribbean-based dance class with strong roots in African culture. Get a great workout while you dance to the rhythmic souds of reggae and soca music. Learn some great choregraphed routines.
This class incorporates isolation moves for upper and lower body, shimmies, and traveling moves that will be utilized in a choreographed routine.
Hard core. This intensive, outdoor 90-minute workout will meet in Van Cortlandt Park. Cardiovascular, muscular endurance and functional training segments will work you out!
NOTE: January-April, class is held indoors at the Y.
This multi-impact class, including a sculpt segment, will help develop your cardiovascular system and enhance your muscular endurance.
This extreme cardio workout will include kicks, jabs, hooks and uppercuts. No equipment is required.
This intense class will help strengthen your mid-section. Included in this class will be back-strengthening exercises.
This class focuses on destressing through guided deep breathing and visualization techniques. Attention is given toward Chakras and the endocrine system. Please bring cushion for chairs or yoga mat.
This yoga-based class will focus on using the breath to go into various standing, seated and lying poses. The class will conclude with meditation.
This class will explore standing, seated and floor postures; some weight-bearing upper body work; and basic practices (pranayama). Adaptations provided for experienced practitioners and newcomers alike.
(TEENS ALLOWED) This high-energy class incorporates a fusion of Latin and international music that combines aerobic/fitness interval dance routines. The combination of fast and slow rhythms will sculpt and tone the body.
This class incorporates techniques that increase strength and flexibility, while focusing on proper alignment and core stability. These exercises focus on lengthening muscles and maintaining alignment. The emphasis is placed on form and control, and is aimed at increasing body awareness.
This vigorous and challenging class emphasizes increased strength, balance and flexibility. This class links poses with the breath to generate heat in the body.
This total body conditioning class involves the usage of light weights, bands, and therapy balls.
Tween/Teen Belly Dancing:
This tween/teen class incorporates isolation moves for upper and lower body, shimmies, and traveling moves that will be utilized in a choreographed routine.
In tween yoga, the poses will move slower and not be held for too long, so as to keep the class moving and engaging. The teen class will hold poses longer and use less imagery. Both classes will move toward partners' yoga, learning to share inner experience with others and to trust one another.
Women’s Free Weight Training:
Take the fear out of free weight usage. This training class will help add variety to your strength training routines. Strengthen your body and protect your joints as you improve body awareness.
This high-energy class incorporates a fusion of Latin and international music that combines aerobic/fitness interval dance routines. The combination of fast and slow rhythms will sculpt and tone the body.
Targets the baby-boomers. This Zumba class has the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active older participant, as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. What stays the same are all the elements of Zumba: the zesty Latin music, like salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggaeton.
SilverSneakers® I: Muscular Strength and Range of Movement
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
SilverSneakers® II: Cardio Circuit
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching, and relaxation exercises.
SilverSneakers®: Yoga Stretch
This class will move your body through a series of seated and standing poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
