Fitness Center

The Riverdale Y is committed to offering our members quality fitness equipment and instruction in a safe and pleasant environment. We strive to provide innovative and current programs as they emerge in the fitness industry.

Silver Sneakers®
The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is designed to improve and maintain the physical and mental health of Oxford Medicare Advantagesm, Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield members and Green Ribbon Health Plan. 


Fitness Classes for Members

These classes are included in your membership* - no need to register in advance. They run according to the schedule listed here (subject to change).

Abs'olute Stability:
Tone your ab's! This class consists of a variety of basic to advanced core exercises on the ball.

Below the Belt: Sculpt & define your lower body with this intense workout. Ab's, back, legs & gults will be worked!

Bronx Tough:
Hard core. This intensive outdoor 90-minute workout will meet in Van Cortlandt Park. Cardiovascular, muscular endurance and functional training segments will work you out!
NOTE: January-April, class is held indoors at the Y.

Cardio Fusion:
This multi-impact class, including a sculpt segment, will help develop your cardiovascular system and enhance your muscular endurance.

Cardio Kickboxing:
This extreme cardio workout will include kicks, jabs, hooks & uppercuts. No equipment is required. 

Extreme Interval Circuit:
This high intensity cardio sculpt class will incorporate intervals of strength & cardiovascular segments.

Functional Training:
This class will help strengthen & align your body with the use of Thera-bands, balls & weights

Hard Core:
This intense 45 minute class will help strengthen your mid-section. Included in this class will be back strengthening exercises. 

Step-on-It:
This high energy step class will include choreographed routines.

Supreme Sculpt:
This total body conditioning class involves the usage of light weights, bands, and therapy balls.

 

Specialty Classes:  

Belly Dancing:
This class incorporates isolation moves for upper & lower body, shimmies, & traveling moves that will be utilized in a choreographed routine

SilverSneakers® I: Muscular Strength & Range of Movement
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

SilverSneakers® II: Cardio Circuit
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching, and relaxation exercises.


SilverSneakers®: Yoga Stretch:
This class will move your body through a series of seated and standing poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity

Women’s Free Weight Training:
Take the fear out of free weight usage. This instructional class will help add variety to your strength training routines. Strengthen your body and protect your joints as you improve body awareness.

Zumba:
This high energy class incorporates a fusion of Latin & international music that combines aerobic/fitness interval dance routines. The combination of fast & slow rhythms will sculpt and tone the body.

Fitness Center Orientations
Upon joining you receive 2 FREE orientations on the usage of the cardiovascular and strength training equipment. Please be advised that a full health history will be reviewed and may require a medical clearance before continuing with your orientation. To schedule an appointment please call ext. 222.

Personal Training

Take your first step towards attaining your Fitness & Wellness goals.

The Riverdale Y offers several personal training options. Our unique programs deliver results to identify and achieve your wellness objectives.

The Riverdale Y is committed to providing professional personal training that follows The American College of Sports Medicine guidelines for exercise testing & prescription. The education of our trainers is an essential part of our training programs. Our Y trainers have either a bachelor’s degree in a health related field and/or one or more certifications from the following organizations: American College of Sports Medicine, National Academy of Sports Medicine, National Strength & Conditioning Association, American Council on Exercise, and/or Aerobic & Fitness Association of America.

24 hour cancellation is required

Fees for any sessions must be purchased in advance

Sessions are valid for up to 6 months

Personal Lockers
(C) Level Adults only
Box lockers are available in the C level locker room for annual rental ($60) to members. Tall lockers are for daily use only; overnight usage is strictly prohibited. Personal lockers are for adults only. The Y is not responsible for lost or stolen items - be sure to lock your locker.
 


Pro Shop

For your convenience, we offer a variety of accessories for purchase, including bathing caps, racquetballs, locks and goggles. Our prices are competitive, so come and take advantage of this one-stop pro shop at the reception desk
