Photography Camp
Ages 9-12
August 26-30, 2013
9:00am–3:00pm
(late-stay option until 6:00pm at extra fee)
Children are invited to join this fun, experiential camp and learn the joy and art of photography. This is not a technical course, but a week full of excursions to explore photography as a medium of expression. Each day will also include a swim session at the Y and lunch outdoors.
The schedule:
Monday is information day – know your camera, learn about composition and lighting, go on a scavenger hunt at the Y with photo assignments.
Tuesday – landscapes and macro photography will be explored on a trip to Wave Hill.
Wednesday – learn to photograph animals and people. Who works at the Zoo? Field trip to the Bronx Zoo.
Thursday – Photographing New York City...the subjects are many and possibilities are limitless. An excellent opportunity to put all you've learned into practice.
Friday – back at the Y — learn how to download your photos, share on Flicker, etc. Understand how to select and crop. Critique the week and review each other’s photos. Pick your three favorites — print them, mount them and install them in the Y’s Gallery.
Gallery Opening and Show
Late Friday afternoon, we will have a Gallery Show for parents and friends, with snacks, wine, etc. Note: students will need to come with their own digital camera (any kind is fine, including disposable digitals).
