The Riverdale YM-YWHA is committed to the ideas of tzedakah (charity) and tikkun olam (repairing the world) as part of our mission statement to provide for our neighbors. Join us in our mitzvah projects! Collection bins are in the Y lobby.

Acts of Kindness 2011-12

Riverdale Y Now Community Partner with Bead for Life

Raising funds for impoverished women and children in Uganda. Have you seen our Bead for Life sales through the past few years? This beautiful jewelry is made out of recycled magazine paper by women in extreme poverty in Uganda. The funds raised at the Y go entirely to Uganda. Through the years, these women have become self-supporting through Bead for Life, sending their children to school and building secure homes to live in safely. Shop Bead for Life for yourself, for your family, for gifts for friends. It's a Mitzvah!

Eye Glasses

Used eyeglasses, broken frames, broken lenses — they all can be recycled to aid the needy!

Purim's Esther's Closet is Back

Recycle your Purim costumes and benefit the Y…consume less, create less waste, spend less, and clean out your closet! Esther's Closet will be held on Sunday, February 26, from 12:00pm-2:00pm. Here's how it works: Bring your gently used costumes to donate to the Y (February 19-25). At the exchange on Sunday, February 26, browse 'new' costumes and purchase them for a nominal fee (most will be $5). So COME ON! Empty the closets! Funds raised will support the costume fund of the Y's children's theater companies.

Passover Food Drive
Kosher and Non-Kosher

Start to clean out your food pantry before Passover. Bring in all your non-Kosher-for-Passover food and we will donate it to older adults. Be sure that your items are canned, or dry non-expired items.
