Welcoming Babies
Shalom Baby
Welcoming Babies and their Parents to Riverdale
Shalom Baby is an outreach program designed to welcome young families and their new babies to the Y and the Riverdale Jewish community. By extending a hand of friendship to families who have recently experienced the birth or adoption of a child, the program invites your family to become an integral part of the Riverdale community.
A welcoming phone call from the Y’s Family and Parenting Center begins the process. Knowing the hectic schedule that a new baby brings, a trained volunteer will call and schedule a visit to your home after your baby’s arrival to deliver a wonderful gift package. The volunteer will help to get you and your baby off to a great start in Riverdale’s Jewish community.
The volunteers provide support and resources and help coordinate play groups and other activities for participants. Visiting together helps develop relationships among families sharing these new challenges and delights, and lessens the isolation that sometimes accompanies the arrival of a new baby.
There is no charge for participation in this program.
