The Riverdale Y Early Childhood Center is a dynamic program for children ages 2-5 that emphasizes an integrated curriculum in literacy, numeracy, music, science and the graphic arts. Additionally, our students are exposed to a curriculum that incorporates Jewish values and the celebration of Jewish holidays.
Our classrooms are organized around learning centers which reflect the themes that are being investigated. They are equipped with educationally-appropriate and challenging manipulatives, puzzles, books, writing implements and art materials. Our Universal Pre-Kindergarten classes follow the Common Core standards that are aligned with the New York State Department of Education learning standards.
The Riverdale YM-YWHA Early Childhood Center offers classes for two-, three- and four-year-olds. Each classroom is headed by an early childhood teacher and an assistant experienced in working with young children. Our facilities include indoor classrooms, an outdoor playground and play deck. We also make use of additional Y resources such as the gym. We provide professional physical education and music instruction, as well as nutritional and intergenerational programs. Parent/staff communication is encouraged, with conferences and special times for parents to visit classrooms.
Our School may be closed during the summer – but there’s plenty for young children to do at the Y!
