Group Fitness @ The Y!

Membership to the Riverdale Y offers you a wide variety of group fitness classes.  Class descriptions are listed below. Plan your way to a healthier, happier you.

There's no need to register in advance, but many of our classes are so popular that space can be limited. You may not enter a class more than 5 minutes after its start time — both for your own health (each class starts with a designated warm up) and out of respect for your fellow classmates.

Aqua Zumba: Water Zumba works the entire body in a non-impact environment.

Belly Dancing: Incorporates isolation moves for upper and lower body, shimmies, and traveling moves utilized in a choreographed routine.

Cardio Fusion: This multi-impact class, including a sculpt segment, develops the cardiovascular system and enhances muscular endurance.

Express Circuit: A full-body, high intensity, circuit workout that will test your limits.

F.I.T. Circuit: This Functional, Intense, Training class focuses on total body strengthening to improve joint mobility, coordination and flexibility.

Gentle Yoga: Focuses on an easy flow of pattern progressions, including hip openers, bends, twist and balancing postures, omitting most chaturanga poses.

H.I.I.T: This High, Intensity, Interval, Training technique keeps the heart rate high and burns fat in less time through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short recovery periods.
 
Interval Circuit: This class will incorporate cardio, functional training and core work.

Masala Bhangra: An Indian-dance based cardio fitness program that combines high energy, choreographed Bollywood and Bhangra moves.

Meditative Yoga: Focuses on using the breath to go into various basic standing, seated & lying postures and concludes with meditation.


Pilates (Mat): Incorporates techniques which increase strength and flexibility, while focusing on proper alignment, core stability, lengthening muscles and maintaining alignment.

 

Pre-/Post-natal Pilates: Help maintain a strong and healthy core during and after your pregnancy; by working your abs, glutes, legs, back and pelvis. All levels are welcome. 


Supreme Sculpt: This total body conditioning class involves the usage of light weights, bands, and therapy balls.

Triple C’s: A Cardio, Core, Calisthenics class incorporating various exercises, along with H.I.I.T components, to challenge endurance and overall strength.

Ultimate Plyo & Strength: This class will incorporate varying degrees of plyometric activities for the core, upper and lower body while focusing on improving endurance and strength.

Vinyasa Flow: A rigorous approach to yoga focusing on flowing poses, alignment and sequences that are linked to breath.

Women’s Free Weight Training: This instructional class will help add variety to your strength training routines with the use of free weights.

Zumba: Incorporates a fusion of Latin and international music that combines aerobic/fitness interval dance routines.

Zumba Gold: All the elements of Zumba paced for the active baby boomer.

Zumba+: Incorporates a half hour of Zumba and a half hour of abs and sculpt.

SilverSneakers® @ the Y:

SilverSneakers® I: Muscular Strength and Range of Movement
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

SilverSneakers® II: Cardio Circuit
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching, and relaxation exercises. (Note: this class requires 30 minutes of standing.)

SilverSneakers®: Yoga Stretch
This class will move your body through a series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.


Group Fitness Classes in the Pool

Aqua Aerobics for Seniors:
Explore all the healthy, fun and life-enhancing benefits that the Riverdale Y!'s pool can offer. These gentle impact aqua aerobic exercises and various core muscle stretches will tone, strengthen and energize you, and are especially catered to our senior swimmers!

Aqua Zumba:
Come join us in the pool for this Latin-inspired dance class designed for in the water! These energizing and fun classes will help you safely lose weight, tone and strengthen your body, all set to exciting dance rhythms!

Parent & Me Fitness Classes

Mommy & Me Pilates
Workout with your baby (6 weeks–new walkers). Or…come alone for a postnatal Pilates workout.  Pilates exercises focus on a strong core connection and aid in healing any separation of the abdominal muscles.  Let the babies interact as you lengthen, strengthen, and tone while bonding with other new moms. 

Squats N Tots™
Parents and kids (ages 0-4) are welcome to join a fun, challenging, and interactive class where you get in shape while meeting other local families. Enjoy a full-body workout combining cardio and strength training.

Special Offer for the above four classes:
First Time Trial Class: $20
5 Pack Drop-In: $125/$100
(can be used in any class, must be used by 12/31/15)

Personal Lockers

(C) Level — Adults only
Box lockers are available in the C level locker room for annual rental ($60) to members Please see our reception desk.. Tall lockers are for daily use only; overnight usage is strictly prohibited. Personal lockers are for adults only. The Y is not responsible for lost or stolen items — be sure to lock your locker.


Pro Shop

For your convenience, we offer a variety of accessories for purchase, including bathing caps, goggles, nose clips, locks, ear buds, yoga straps and headphones. Our pro shop is located at our reception desk.
