Assistant Director, Early Childhood Center / Director, Early Childhood Day Camp

Job Responsibilities: We are looking for an Assistant Director to play a key role in supporting the growth of our young families in the greater Riverdale community. The Riverdale YM-YWHA’s early childhood programs and services are rooted in Jewish values and welcoming to a diverse community of constituents. This is a managerial position, reporting to the Early Childhood Center (ECC) Director, and has three primary components:

Job Qualifications

 

Director of Camp Kulanu, the Y’s Early Childhood Summer Camp for 2-5 year olds. Responsibilities include pre-camp and camp season duties, including:

○ Promoting camp throughout the community and beyond through open houses, camp fairs, existing Y programs, parlor meetings, and other opportunities
○ Conducting tours and intakes
○ Hiring qualified and enthusiastic staff
○ Overseeing programming, including overall and weekly themes, daily schedule, specialty programs and events
○ Working with Department of Health for camp permit
○ Managing camp office, including organizing files for staff and campers and ordering supplies
○ Planning and conducting staff and parent orientations
○ Communicating regularly with families, including sending newsletters and pictures
○ Supervising and supporting staff and facilitating team culture

 

Assistant Director of the Y’s Nursery School. Responsibilities include assisting the ECC Director in all phases of the school operation, including:

○ Assisting with recruitment, enrollment and retention of students, including giving tours of the school and representing our ECC in the community
○ Managing the administrative components of the Center, such compliance with DOE and PreK for All (UPK) regulations, staff and student paperwork, books and materials inventory, and adherence to budget
○ Communicating with families
○ As needed, supporting ECC teachers and classes, including providing coverage
○ Attending Early Childhood Center and Riverdale YM-YWHA events as required and positively promoting the Center at all times

 

Director of the Riverdale Y’s Parenting Center. Responsibilities include:

○ Developing innovative programs for infants and toddlers, including recruiting dynamic and engaging artists, educators, and outside vendors
○ Coordinating the calendar of classes/events for families with young children
○ Outreaching to the local community to bring young families into the Y
○ Creating opportunities for parents of young children to connect with each other, including organizing events for young families
○ Providing a strong link between infant-toddler programs and ECC

 

Job Qualifications: The ideal candidate is an experienced formal or informal educator/ administrator who is able to support the Y’s Early Childhood Center mission of fostering the development of the whole child - intellectually, socially, physically and emotionally. Candidates should possess the following qualities and experience:
● Warm and welcoming personality, relating well to children and able to partner confidently with parents
● Calm under pressure, customer service oriented, flexible, and possessing a good sense of humor
● Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Highly-organized with attention to detail and follow-through
● Strong knowledge of Jewish holidays, traditions and culture and the ability to integrate this into an age-appropriate early childhood curriculum for camp and ECC
● Ability to work collaboratively, as part of ECC team as well as Riverdale Y team
● Experience working with early childhood age children and families
● Experience hiring and supervising staff
● Excellent computer skills and experience using social media to market our program and communicate with young families
● Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related degree is preferred

Early Childhood Head Teacher

The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with parents, children and co-workers.  He or she should have a New York State Teaching License in early childhood (Birth-2) and experience in early childhood education, preferably within a Jewish educational environment.  

 

This full-time position reports to the Early Childhood Director.

 

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Planning, supervision and implementation of an integrated, age appropriate, developmentally sensitive experiential curriculum in accordance with the philosophy of the school      

  • Creating and maintaining a child-centered classroom environment that is inviting and clean

  • Involving Assistant Teachers, aids, and substitute teachers in all areas of classroom management including curriculum implementation using a team approach

  • Carrying out appropriate and positive discipline established in accordance with the philosophy of the school

  • Timely submission of written curriculum lesson plans and newsletters

  • Conducting and completing child assessment reports

 

Qualifications:

  • Two years teaching experience in the area of early childhood  

  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education working towards Master’s Degree

  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and resources related to the field

  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and the energy and patience required to keep pace with a large number of young children

  • Ability to stay focused on multi-year goals and objectives and to approach a variety of challenges with enthusiasm, compassion and energy.

The Riverdale Y is offering the perfect opportunity for someone with sales and customer service experience. We are looking for a Sales Associate to play a key role in actively generating membership revenue. This position is a unique opportunity for the right individual who is energized by the idea of using superior customer service, innovative ideas and marketing skills to cultivate new membership.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the cultivation and organization of prospects with the ultimate goal of reaching unit expectations.
  • Assisting in establishing a system whereby all prospects, whether walk-ins, call-ins or those acquired from outreach, are all tracked in a methodical and consistent manner.
  • Generating sales leads

The Riverdale YM-YWHA is seeking an outgoing, mature individual to work at our main reception desk. 

The individual in this position will be responsible for delivering the highest quality customer service to all members and guests through professional greetings, account maintenance, and extensive knowledge of programs and services.  They will proactively meet the needs of members and accurately answer questions.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Sports and Physical Education Specialist/Coach/Teacher

Must be qualified and experienced in Physical Education. Responsible for creating and submitting a curriculum for approval, overseeing counselors assigned to their specialty area while building a fun, safe and nurturing environment. Must be a proven leader with the ability to break down skills and teach fundamentals according to each student's individual abilities. Gymnastics Coach and Sports Specialist and Mommy & Me Instructor – P/T

Wanted: Dynamic, Energetic and Reliable Gymnastics Coach and Sports Specialist to work in our Sports and Recreation Department!

The Riverdale Y is seeking a part time Gymnastics Coach and Sports Specialist to work alongside the Sports and Recreation Program Manager. We are looking for a dynamic, athletic, enthusiastic and nurturing instructor who will be a positive role model for the children in our programs.

Principal Responsibilities:

Candidates should only apply if they have experience working with children, a strong background in athletics and physical education.

• Must have 1+ year of experience in related specialty.
• Willing to work weekends and nights as needed.
• College degree preferred. Must have a high school or equivalent work/education experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Enrichment Class Instructors / Specialists

Must be qualified, experienced individuals in the field they are teaching. Each session can be up to 60 minutes. Responsible for creating and submitting a 12-session curriculum for approval, overseeing staff members assigned to their specialty and creating a fun, safe and nurturing environment. Instructor should have the unique ability to teach without students knowing they are being taught. The material must be presented in a way to spark interest in each child enabling them to develop an affinity for the subject matter. Must be able to engage students and maintain their attention. Ability to work with 1st–2nd grade children in one class and 3rd–5th grade students in another.

If you teach, plan on teaching, or possess an expertise in an exciting field children can relate to, this is an opportunity for you to develop or sharpen your skills while creating a following and growing within our program.
