Gallery 18

Sydell Glasser

Painter Syd Glasser has a solo exhibition on display at Gallery 18 May 1st through May 31st. The exhibition of the Brooklyn based artist titled Horses features new series of mixed media portraits of horses. The imagery of the exhibition explores one of history’s greatest icons in a variety of techniques and compositions.

Horses have played an integral role in the lives of humans since their domestication.  Used as machines of war, modes of transportation, and held as luxury pets, they have shaped lives on both grand and personal levels.  Syd Glasser has always felt an affinity to these animals and has been an equestrian for the better part of 26 years.  The work in this series uses a variety of techniques to document and reveal horses in a variety of states, playful, quiet, powerful, and vulnerable.

Syd Glasser graduated from SUNY Binghamton with a Bachelor of Arts in printmaking and a Master of Arts in Student Affairs. She has shown her work in galleries throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan and has received several awards from SUNY Binghamton for her work in monotype and mixed media. Her work was recently featured at the Binghamton University Art Museum as part of their juried alumni art show.

She maintains a studio residency with Chashama, an organization that partners with real estate professionals to convert vacant commercial real estate into subsidized work and presentation space.

You are invited to our artist’s reception on Sunday, May 17th between 1:00 and 3:00pm.
