At the Crossroads of Sephardic, Mizrahi, and Russian-Speaking Worlds: The History and Culture of the Bukharian Jews
On the Shabbat of November 16th, the Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale will host its ninth annual Jewish Communities Around the World lunch ‘n learn. This year’s program, At the Crossroads of Sephardic, Mizrahi, and Russian-Speaking Worlds: The History and Culture of the Bukharian Jews, features Ruben Shimonov, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Sephardic-Mizrahi Q Network. Shimonov is also the former Director of Community Engagement and Education at Queens College Hillel and was named a 2018 Jewish Week 36 Under 36 emerging Jewish communal leader.
Shimonov will speak at around 12:30 p.m., following a Kiddush luncheon featuring authentic Bukharian food. The program is free and open to the entire community.
