Race, Racism and You
Our Jewish communities want to act — but what do we need to know? In this session we will cover foundational ideas about race and racism. Through interactive activities, participants will become familiar with key vocabulary and its historical context in the United States. We will then apply these learnings by identifying strategies for doing effective social justice work across lines of racial difference. During this session, participants will…
- Become familiar with key vocabulary: race (versus ethnicity), racism (versus prejudice), whiteness, anti-Blackness, privilege, oppression, and intersectionality
- Situate one’s own identities and history in relationship to this larger narrative
- Map the impact of oppression and social change (e.g. at the internalized, interpersonal, institutional, and cultural levels)
- Begin to understand how one’s own racial socialization has shaped one’s life and work
This training will feature Master Trainers
