Dear Riverdale Y community,
Like you, we cannot wait for the day when the city and state give us the go-ahead to reopen our fitness and aquatics centers. With Governor Cuomo’s recent announcement that all gyms and indoor pools have been removed from the Phase 4 schedule of reopening, we eagerly await an updated plan from the state. We will be sure to share the details with you as soon as they become available to us. In the meantime, we want to tell you about some of the more notable improvements we have made throughout the facility during our downtime:
Windows: When you return to the Y, you will find new windows in the gym and early childhood center. With a grant from the Department of Homeland Security, we have replaced all the remaining glass bricks throughout the first floor. In addition to providing important added security features, these windows have the added benefit of opening up the look and feel of the gym, which we know you will enjoy.
Pool: We have converted the pool from a liquid chlorine disinfection system back to a saline/UV system, which means you’ll get all the hygienic benefits of a liquid chlorine pool, but without all the irritating chemicals. You will also find a new shower on the pool deck so that swimmers can rinse off before and after entering the pool without needing to access the locker rooms. Finally, though you will not see it, we have replaced a significant amount of the underground drainage system in order to prepare for the saline conversion. This will make the entire filtration system work much better.
Health & Safety: We have overhauled our procedures for everything from cleaning, check-in, space usage, reservations for workout times, and more. In the coming days we will share detailed descriptions, photos, and videos of our new health and safety measures. These changes mean that we will be able to safely welcome you back to the Y just as soon as the government gives gyms and indoor pools the all-clear.
