I always look forward to this time of year: the lights, the music, the joy of this season, regardless of how you celebrate or whether you celebrate at all.
As I reflect on the Jewish Festival of Lights, I remind myself of what brought us to where we are today. A little over 2,000 years ago, the Greeks tried to suppress our spiritual freedoms by outlawing fundamental Jewish practices such as circumcision and the Sabbath. We are celebrating the ability to overcome this repression and to continue maintaining our identity and pride in our Jewish faith.
Chanukah is a celebration of hope and rededication, of standing up for what we believe in. May this Holiday Season be filled with the glow of hope, peace, generosity and love.
