Israeli Culture

Israeli Culture at the Y

As an institution that is steeped in universally held Jewish values, we are honored to bring an Israeli emissary (Shaliach/cha – in Hebrew) to the community. Their sacred mission is to weave together the threads of culture, tradition, heritage, language, history, innovation, and personality of Israel into a tapestry of connection. We invite our community to be engaged in the programming, classes, and discussions that will be generated from this department. May we grow and learn together for the blessing of siblinghood!

Our Shlicha Shani

Shani Aslan joined our Y all the way from Tel Aviv, Israel! As a Shlicha (Israeli emissary) of the Jewish Agency for Israel, Shani creates and promotes Israel-related activities within the Y, and with the surrounding community.

A few words from Shani: “I see the Shlichut here in NY, as an amazing opportunity to get to know many new people and to learn about myself, about Judaism and about Israel – from a different angle. I hope that I will make the community feel a little more connected to Israel and to get to know her better, by getting to know me.”

You can reach out at any time – if you want to meet, have a phone call, or just ask a question!
