Fitness and Sports Director

Job Overview: The Riverdale Y seeks a Fitness and Sports Director to lead programs and services that build and foster a healthier, more active community. The Director will establish and strengthen a collaborative team of engaged staff members that embody the mission and values of the Y to create a highly functional, productive, and positive environment for members and staff. The Director will train every staff member to deliver a consistent, well-designed experience that leads to increased member engagement and a stronger Y through increased revenue and participation within fitness and membership departments.

Key Responsibilities of the Fitness and Sports Director Include:

● Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff in the areas of including personal training,
small group training, group exercise, and floor supervision
● Teach group exercise classes, coach basketball, provide personal training, and ensure
proper coverage of the fitness spaces
● Partner with the General Manager and the Member Services Manager to ensure
multiple revenue streams are achieved
● Drive, track and report on key metrics regularly
● In partnership with the General Manager, develop department budgets and strategic
business plan, and monitor for progress monthly as measured against annual goals
● Understand and be committed to the mission and vision of the Y. Be knowledgeable
about the Y, its programs, services, and team
● Responding to emergent program and member requests, staffing issues, and scheduling
● Ensure excellent customer service and customer responsiveness to both inside and
outside constituents
● Foster and manage quality relationships with members and colleagues
● Oversee compliance and risk mitigation to ensure the health and safety of staff and
● Audit programs, services and equipment for maximum effectiveness and positioning
within the marketplace
● Serve as Manager On Duty during scheduled work shifts

● 3+ years in the health and wellness industry with preference for experience in sports,
specifically basketball, and fitness
● BA in health, fitness, or sports management (or equivalent)
● Experience working or volunteering in the non-profit sector, with preference for
experience in a Jewish communal organization
● Strong oral and written communication skills
● Mentoring and coaching skills
● Ability to appropriately delegate responsibility
● Project management experience and the ability to self-manage in a fast-paced
● Flourishes in a hands-on, collaborative work environment where everyone pitches in

Compensation is commensurate with experience. $50-$60 K
