Also come to our vendor’s fair and meet some amazing organizations doing powerful work in the world. MLK Day of Service supported by UJA Federation’s “Time for Good,” and coordinated by the Riverdale Y.

Afya provides an environmentally-sensitive, community-oriented solution to help address the critical shortage of medical supplies in underserved communities around the world.

Medical Supplies Packaging (FULL): 150 volunteers needed.

  • Time: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
  • Good for: Families and Boomers

This is an opportunity to help provide needed medical supplies throughout the world, while enjoying an intergenerational experience with the residents of the Hebrew Home.

The anti-bullying, pro-empathy Be A Friend Project is a national not-for-profit organization delivering surprise letters of peer support called FRIEND MAIL to victims of severe bullying to help them stay FRIEND STRONG and know they are not alone.

  • Time: 9:30 am – 4:00pm; Available all day in a drop in fashion
  • Good For: Kids, Tweens, and Teens
  • Available to all with no commitment! Sign up when you arrive at the Riverdale Y



‘One-stop shop’ model of providing a coordinated and comprehensive package of support addressing the myriad needs that accompany poverty.

  • Time: 8:15 pm – 4:00 pm
  • Location: Part of the Solution, 2759 Webster Avenue, Bronx
  • Good For: Teens (14+), Young Adults, Adults, Boomers

Meal Prep (FULL) – 6 volunteers help with sorting food donations, preparing dining room, assisting the chef.

  • Time: 8:15 am – 11:15 am

Meal Service – 10 volunteers to serve food and drinks to guests, clean dishes, and bus tables

  • Time: 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Inspired by Jewish values and ideals, MAZON is a national advocacy organization working to end hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds in the United States and Israel. This is Hunger is MAZON’s powerful, immersive digital video experience that explores who struggles with hunger in America and why.

Multi-Media Training: 25 Volunteers.

  • Time: 11:45am – 12:45 pm
  • Good for: Teens and Young Adults


The Institute is committed to supporting U.S. troops stationed overseas and domestically. It seeks to increase awareness of the sacrifices our service people make on our behalf each and every day through education and community engagement.

Care Packages (FULL): 40 Volunteers

  • Time: 1:00pm – 2:00pm
  • Good for: Families and Older Adults

Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief non-profit organization that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food and other life-changing aid to people in developing nations.

Set Up (FULL) – 6 strong volunteers to unload truck and set up workstations

  • Time: 9:00 am – 10:00 am
  • Good for: Fit bodies who can lift up to 50lbs

Meal Packing (FULL) – 60 volunteers work in assembly lines to package 12,000 meals

  • Time: 10:30 am – 11:30 am
  • Good for: Families and Boomers

BJCC, a non-sectarian, community based, social service organization that is available to all low-income individuals in the Bronx, is organizing a game day with the residents of the Amalgamated House.

Intergenerational Gaming (FULL) – 25 volunteers for one on one or group board gaming. Some volunteers may also be asked to visit home bound residents socially.

  • Time: 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm
  • Location:  Amalgamated Housing Corporation, 98 Van Cortlandt Park South, Bronx
  • Good For: Teens, Adults, Families, Boomers
