New Beginnings Center for Contemporary Adults 60+

Membership is free to persons 60 years of age and older and includes a variety of engaging programs and activities. The Center is funded by the New York City Department for the Aging, local elected officials, and participant contributions.

New Beginnings offers music, art, and cultural discussions at least once a week. Our programs include lectures, art classes, films, and more. We also offer older adult discounts for special performances and matinee shows at the Riverdale Y.

Transportation: Door-to-door accessible van transportation to and from the Riverdale Y for a suggested contribution of $2.25. Transportation is also available to bring older adults to medical offices, shopping, and for other necessities. Call ahead for pick-up at 718-548-8200, ext. 225.
Health Promotion: Weekly exercise classes ranging from T’ai Chi  to morning stretch. Also includes medical lectures and health screenings.
Arts & Culture: Concerts, music, movies and cultural discussions.
Education: Current events, lectures, book clubs, short stories, and more.
Technology: Basic computer and social media classes.
Lunch: Served daily. Please arrive anytime between 11:45 pm and 12:45 pm and check in on the second floor meals desk. No pre-registration required.

Older Adults on the Move

It is never too late to explore and learn new things! The older adult center offers monthly outings. Some are day trips, and some are longer excursions.

Social Services

New Beginnings offers free social work services on-site and in the community during regular business hours. Services include supportive counseling, case assistance, and benefits and entitlement assistance. Individual and group bereavement services are also available.
