We have partnered with Empowered Online, LLC (“Empowered”), to bring community to adults with special needs through online programming.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, many people with special needs (like all of us) had to find a new normal. Conventional wisdom was, “Social interaction can be challenging for many neurodiverse individuals in person—it will be impossible online.” Yet, since the start of the pandemic, countless stories have highlighted amazing examples of online programming for individuals with special needs. Offerings have spanned broad ranging topics, including games, books, movies, art, fitness, life skills, languages, and
more. These stories have illuminated how, even in a hybrid world, online programming designed for individuals with special needs can provide a flexible and purposeful complement to in-person interactions.

Empowered aims to make this model of programming accessible to more people, beginning with this pilot program offered through Riverdale Y.
