Dear Riverdale Y Family,
Our hearts go out to the families of the victims of Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh, who were the targets of an anti-Semitic attack on Saturday morning at Shabbat services. We send prayers for healing to those who were injured and we express our gratitude to the first responders.
Last night, clergy and members representing congregations throughout the Riverdale Jewish community gathered to mourn, to read psalms of comfort, and to sing songs of solidarity. Christian and Muslim leadership have sent notes of condolence and concern to those of us in the Jewish community. And as a JCC, the Riverdale Y remains in close contact with our colleagues at the JCC of Greater Pittsburgh, which is helping coordinate support during this time.
This Tuesday, October 30, at 6 PM at the Riverdale Monument (Riverdale Avenue and 239th Street), at a rally called by our partner and friend, Dr. Mehnaz Afridi of Manhattan College, the entire Riverdale community will stand together in solidarity against hatred. We invite you to join us and lend your voice to this gathering.
Please note, the Y continues to work with our friends at the 50th Precinct and with our security consultants to ensure the safety and security of our members and guests.
Sincerely,
Riverdale Y Management
