Riverdale Y Has Delivered 100,000 Meals to Seniors!

|

Today we delivered our 100,000th meal! Please join us in celebrating this amazing achievement! A sincere thank you to all of you who generously donated to help make this happen and the dedicated volunteers who, through rain, snow and COVID-19 delivered meals so our food-vulnerable seniors could eat every day.

It all started when the Y was forced to close due to the COVID Emergency. As we scrambled to prepare our new operating plans, the Senior Center sprang into operation immediately. For the first two weeks we prepared meals the Seniors picked up from the Y. While this was happening, we prepared plans to feed the Seniors, who are among our most food vulnerable members, by receiving daily meals.

By April 1 we had established the delivery program and created lists of those in need and plans to prepare, package and deliver the meals. Soon thereafter, the project became fully operational when, Mae, began leading a group of community volunteers to take on the task and make deliveries. Sharon and her staff sought out the names of those in greatest need and our program was born.

Today we continue this free delivery service to almost 200 Seniors, four times a week, and will do so for as long as we can. With your continued support, we are confident that we can meet the needs of our seniors until the emergency has ended.

Thank you for your support! This type of program only exists because there are such wonderful people in our community who give of their time and money so that others can be safer. To all who were involved, congratulations. You are community heroes!
