This may seem obvious, but after numerous conversation with colleagues and patients’ families, it is very clear to me that the infection control procedures being applied at the Y are much better and than almost anywhere else. Of course it is not just about the rules as written. Many gyms and fitness centers have the same rules but the members are hostile to them or the staff doesn’t appear to take them seriously. Almost everyone I have spoken to outside of Riverdale has had uncomfortable or awkward encounters at gyms and similar places. I am at the Y a lot (as is my family) and we have not had any issues. The staff and the members are both respectful of the situation and serious about the policies.

Masks
Masks are required in all shared, public areas of the Y, including the entry, lobby, hallways, elevator, program spaces, and restrooms and locker rooms, especially where it’s difficult to maintain social distance, and where children may be present.
Please note:
- In children’s programs, masks are required for all adults, children over 2, instructors, and any support staff present unless in the pool. This includes the pool deck for parents watching swim lessons.
- Members are not required to wear masks within the fitness center, pool, group exercise classes, and basketball court. We ask that you continue to show your vaccination app or card at the front desk for the time being so that we can update your account status.
