Something Rotten: A Very New Musical

|

In the fall of 2000, I knocked on doors of area schools & local facilities that had a theater.  I was on a mission to start a youth theater program for pre-teens and teens.  Being so close to the city, I knew that there were outlets but hoped to create a theater center in Riverdale.

Fortunately for me the Riverdale Y said “yes”.  On a wing and a prayer, I put out an audition notice for kids, ages 12-18 to audition for a production of Grease.

Much to my surprise, more than 50 kids auditioned, and in spring of 2001, Riverdale Rising Stars was born. Since the curtain rose on our very first production the rest, as they say, is history.

We are now in the midst of our 22nd season of Riverdale Rising Stars, our 17th season of Jr. Rising Stars, and our 15th season of Riverdale Rep.  Our participants number 300 per year, and our audiences (yes, pre- and post-pandemic) for each production are upwards of 800 people.

Every year, over 5000 visitors come to our sweet little theater each year.

I’d like to personally invite you to our latest production: Something Rotten!

Featuring a cast of 36 multi-talented teens, performances are scheduled for December 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 & 18.  Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 3 pm.  Tickets are available at the door. $20 for General, $10 for Children under 12, and Adults over 60.

Hope to see you soon!
