Fidel relocated to New York City from Bogotá, Colombia in 2007 to continue an apprenticeship as a jazz pianist and composer. He would go on to graduate Suma Cum Laude from the City College of New York’s Jazz Performance Program in 2009, and earn his Master’s Degree in Music & Studio Composition from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College (SUNY) in 2016, where he also works as a guest lecturer.
Fidel’s stylistic versatility but distinct pianistic approach has put him in the radar of some of New York’s best jazz, latin jazz, and world-music musicians. He has performed as bandleader and sideman in world-class venues and festivals such as Iridium, Joe’s Pub, The Knitting Factory, Lincoln Center, The Highline Ballroom, and at Le Poisson Rouge.
As an instructor, I believe in going beyond any one particular teaching method, catering to the needs of each student, and searching for the best way to engage my students through different music selections and approaches to music.
