Lauren Treat has been a dance teacher for the Riverdale Y since 2018. She is a passionate dance teacher to students of all ages, a Play and Movement Educator at Union Square Play, as well as a dancer with MorDance, and a New York City based freelance artist.

She has danced professionally with BalletMet Columbus, Milwaukee Ballet, Carolina Ballet, Charlotte Ballet, Connecticut Ballet, Lydia Johnson Dance, American Circus Theater, and Artek Ballet.

Originally from upstate New York, Lauren majored in Dance at Walnut Hill School of the Arts in Natick, MA before studying at Manhattan Youth Ballet, where she danced in both the school and Youth Company.

Since 2015 Lauren has expanded her lifelong love of dance to include teaching and has taught at studios and schools in the greater New York area including Norwalk Academy of Dance, City Stage Dance Academy, the Riverdale YM-YWHA, P.S. 24, Westfield School of Dance, and the Riverdale Y’s Summer Stage Performing Arts Intensive. After receiving her training in Brain Compatible Dance Education with Dionne Kamara in 2021, she was invited to co-create ‘Dance! Play! Ballet!’ Union Square Play’s first Ballet program, combining her expertise in Ballet with her knowledge of early childhood development and Union Square Play’s play based learning philosophies.

Lauren strives to foster a joy for dance in each of her students and is excited to nurture community, enthusiasm, and growth in the Dance Department.
