Program Coordinator, New Beginnings
I’ve worked at the Y for more than 15 years. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, but older adults are my passion. I always enjoyed visiting and meeting with seniors. When I was a young girl, I would go to hospitals, nursing homes, & people in my neighborhood. I liked comforting them, and being a good ear for them.
In my spare time, I used to make events for singles, where they would enjoy healthy food (that a friend of mine would make) and I would provide creative programs for them to enjoy.
I also feel great the seniors are coming here to improve their physical health, as well as stimulating their minds and just plain socializing and connecting with people. Our holiday luncheons make a huge difference to people who don’t have much family. I love the variety of tasks in this job.
One of the best parts of my job is having seniors enjoy the programs I bring. I feel so satisfied when a concert or trip is filled with seniors saying how they enjoyed themselves!
