Dear Riverdale Y Community,
Sunday’s tragic fire in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx has claimed the lives of 19 people, including 9 children, and severely injured dozens more. Many families have been displaced and left with literally nothing. The community is in dire need of our support.
There are multiple ways for you to help, including donating to the following:
- The Mayor’s Fund
- A verified GoFundMe campaign set up by community organizers
- Supplies requested by Senator Biaggi’s office:Bottled water, blankets, pillows, sheets, towels, coats, hats, scarves, gloves, shoes, clothing, masks, personal hygiene items, and hand sanitizer.
- There will be a dropbox for these items outside the Riverdale Jewish Center at 3700 Independence Avenue for at least the rest of the week.
- SAR-Bronx Fire Fund via Venmo please include the note “Bronx Fire Fund”
During moments like this, it is critical that we come together as a community to support those in need. We send wishes of comfort and healing to our Bronx neighbors and to the larger Gambian community, of which so many of these families are members.
We will continue to keep you posted about other ways in which our community can offer support.
Thank you for helping us make a difference in our community, today and always.
